High Blood Pressure’s Destructive Diseases of the Arteries

You may know that high blood pressure can cause the heart to become enlarged through years of overwork. But did you know that the disease called hypertension – the technical name for high blood pressure – can also do some serious damage to the arteries?

Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH)

One type of hypertension is called Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) because it is a condition where the pressure on the pulmonary artery is too great. This becomes an area of concern when pressure is above 25 mmHg. Normal pressure on the pulmonary artery is 14 mmHg. In PAH the inside of the arteries becomes narrower because the muscles along the wall tighten up. The arteries can also become thick from the increased muscle mass in the arteries due to their "workout." When this happens the thicker walls create a narrower passage way for the blood flow and blood pressure increases.

The pulmonary arteries can also form scar tissue. This narrows the artery even more. Blood clots can cause further blockage and make blood flow difficult. All of the factors that narrow the arteries can also cause them to harden.

As time goes on without treating PAH, the right side of the heart is forced to work harder. Eventually it becomes so weak that it completely fails. The number one cause of death for people with PAH is heart failure. PAH is either inherited or comes about as the result of other conditions such as chronic lung disease, blood clots in the lungs or heart disease which can be caused by other types of conditions such as hypertension or high cholesterol.

Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is another condition of the arteries brought about by high blood pressure among other diseases and conditions. The risk of developing this hardening and narrowing of the arteries is increased with age. If you have a close relative with the condition you are also at greater risk.

Basically, atherosclerosis starts because of a buildup of plaque in the arteries by damage to the artery's lining. High blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol all contribute to damaging the artery walls. When plaque builds up it can lead to blood clots that narrow the arteries even more. With increased blood pressure on the arteries and the clots, there is a greater chance of heart attack or stroke.

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is when the arteries leading to the heart become hardened and narrower. There can be different types of CAD, the most common being angina and heart attack. Angina is a condition of chronic chest pain because the heart is not getting enough blood. A heart attack is the result also of the blood not making its way to a portion of the heart. Complete heart failure which can result in death happens when the heart cannot pump enough blood through the body.

To treat CAD, it is recommended that blood pressure is kept in check. High blood pressure adds to the strain on the arteries and the heart. A healthy diet and lifestyle will reduce the chances of developing CAD and other diseases or conditions of the arteries. The High Blood Pressure And Sodium Connection: Is Salt Raising Your Blood Pressure?

You can have your cake and eat it too -- well at least you can
lower your blood pressure and have your salt too. That is what
recent research is telling us about sodium's role in managing blood pressure. Hypertension, it turns out, is not caused by too much salt. Neither is it lowered by simply cutting salt out of your
diet. So how is it that table salt (sodium) is still getting such a
bad rap and being linked to high blood pressure? The real culprit
it turns out is not salt, but how your body manages sodium and its proportion to the amount of potassium, calcium and magnesium in your body.

Scientists have discovered that deficiencies in potassium, calcium
and magnesium have a much greater impact on blood pressure than the mineral salt. These other minerals are so important in controlling blood pressure that when they are out of balance with each other, they can make salt more of a threat to healthy blood pressure.

The fact is that only about 10 percent of the population is
considered "salt sensitive." It is this relatively small group that
has to watch their salt intake for a variety of reasons, including
its impact on blood pressure.

There are some easy ways to make sure all of the important minerals in your body are in balance. These include:

1. Eat a well-balanced diet with a variety of foods. This will
ensure that you are getting a wide range of nutrients and not just
one or two key elements.

2. Make sure you get enough calcium -- 2000 mg per day. Calcium is essential to bone density, but in relationship to blood pressure, it is believed that low calcium levels can actually cause high blood pressure. Calcium is a natural diuretic, so when salt is
consumed, even larger quantities, having enough calcium signals the kidneys to get rid of the excess sodium. Also, calcium prevents a certain hormone that raises blood pressure from being released and doing its damage.

3. Get plenty of potassium. Studies have shown that diets high in
potassium and lower in sodium can prevent many diseases and keep blood pressure lower. On the other hand, when there is much more sodium than potassium, blood pressure goes up. Balance the two, and you can make great strides in controlling hypertension.

Here are some food suggestions for getting enough of these
essential minerals:

Calcium -- Aside from dairy products, which can be high in fat and hard on the digestive system, broccoli, spinach, and salmon are good sources.

Magnesium -- Foods such as whole grains, nuts and black beans will help you get the beneficial 400-800 mg daily of magnesium.

Potassium -- bananas, potatoes, orange juice, and cantaloupe all
provide potassium. Potassium is the most substantiated mineral in controlling blood pressure.

When even good food choices leave you feeling you are lacking in
important minerals, supplements can pick up the slack. Whether
through food choices or supplements, getting enough minerals into your diet is necessary to counteract the impact of sodium in the battle with high blood pressure.

You now know of three important minerals that help balance sodium in your body. Discover more powerful nutrients and minerals that can lower your blood pressure safely and naturally:

4 Fatal Muscle-Building Myths Revealed

If you're serious about making a solid commitment to a muscle-building program, you need to be very careful of who you take advice from. Bodybuilding and fitness is literally a multi-billion dollar industry with new websites popping up every single day.

Many of the so-called "experts" out there really don't have a clue of what they're talking about and are only motivated by pushing expensive pills, powders and "miracle programs" on you that you don't really need.

If you don't watch your step you may end up falling for some fatal muscle-building pitfalls that will literally destroy your gains.

In this article I'm going to expose 4 very common muscle-building myths in order to keep you on the proper path to the mind-blowing muscle and strength gains you deserve.

Myth #1: In order to build muscle, you must achieve a "pump" during your workout. The greater the pump you achieve, the more muscle you will build.

For those of you who are just starting out, a "pump" is the feeling that you get as blood becomes trapped inside the muscle tissue when you train with weights. The muscles will swell up and leave your body feeling bigger, tighter, stronger and more powerful.

While a pump does feel fantastic, it has very little, if anything to do with properly stimulating your muscles to grow.

A pump is simply the result of increased bloodflow to the muscle tissue and is certainly not indicative of a successful workout. A successful workout should only be gauged by the concept of progression. If you were able to lift more weight or perform more reps than you did in the previous week, then you did your job.

Myth #2: Building muscle will cause you to become slower and less flexible.

Contrary to what you may think, building a significant amount of lean muscle mass will actually speed you up rather than slow you down.

Muscles are responsible for every movement that your body makes, from running to jumping to throwing. The bottom line is that the stronger a muscle is, the more force it can apply.

Having stronger, more muscular legs means increased foot speed, just as having stronger and more muscular shoulders means the ability to throw farther.

Myth #3: You must always use perfect, textbook form on all exercises.

While using good form in the gym is always important, obsessing over perfect form is an entirely different matter. If you are always attempting to perform every exercise using flawless, textbook form, you will actually increase your chances of injury and simultaneously decrease the total amount of muscle stimulation you can achieve.

It's very important that you always move naturally when you exercise. This could mean adding a very slight sway in your back when you perform bicep curls, or using a tiny bit of body momentum when executing barbell rows.

Myth #4: If you want your muscles to grow you must "feel the burn!"

This is another huge misconception in the gym. The "burning" sensation that results from intense weight training is simply the result of lactic acid (a metabolic waste product) that is secreted inside the muscle tissue as you exercise.

Increased levels of lactic acid have nothing to do with muscle growth and may actually slow down your gains rather than speed them up. You can limit lactic acid production by training in a lower rep range of 5-7, rather than the traditional range of 12 and above.

If you want to clear up your confusion and learn the truth behind many other popular muscle-building myths, go ahead and  I'll reveal why 95% of people in the gym fail miserably and will teach you how to get on the proper path toward muscle-building success once and for all.

How to transform your entire life though exercise

As I strolled down the foggy Tacoma waterfront with Jim, a long-time personal training client of mine, we began to chat about how important exercise has been to him and how much exercise has transformed his entire life - not just his body and his health, but also his career, relationships, self esteem, attitude and everything else.

You see, before coming to me for help, Jim was 60 pounds over weight, he had dangerously high cholesterol and was having breathing problems that were seriously affecting his quality of life.

Jim recalled to me how he used to sit at his desk at work all morning long, unfocused and unproductive, dreaming of nothing but lunch break, and then all afternoon, thinking of nothing but the 5:00 bell and then a big dinner! He did his job well, but not up to his own standards. He knew he could do better.

He knew he could do better physically too. When we began slowly with a simple walking program, Jim blossomed quickly. His enthusiasm skyrocketed and he went almost over night from a couch potato to an "exercise machine" and as a result, his whole life changed.

That is what I call "Exercise Enhancement." Jim didn't just want a better body, he wanted a better life... and with just a little guidance from me, adding exercise was the single catalyst that sparked a whole-life transformation.

Jim was probably a lot like you. He had the number one excuse for not starting an exercise program… "I don't have time." I told him, "There are lots of people who have s full time job, have to get children to school or practice and still have time to exercise - I'm one of them! You just have to make it a priority, put it on your schedule and make it happen." I continued, "You find time to watch wheel of fortune don't you?" So get on your treadmill (we bought one for him) and walk while you watch!"

As we continued to saunter down the waterfront, it was your typical wet, drizzly, cloudy North-Pacific day, but that day was as bright as ever for Jim. Looking back on all the changes that had happened in his life, we started talking about why more people don't exercise and why everybody who doesn't needs to start today!

Weight loss is number one on most people's lists! You have to do some form of exercise to lose body fat. It's a no brainer. Reduce your calorie intake a little bit in combination with the exercise, and POOF! Say goodbye to body fat.

Fitness is number two on most people's list. Jim mentioned how he was having serious trouble breathing and he knew he had to do something about it. For some people the moment of realization happens when they have to climb several flights of stairs for the first time in months or years, and they find themselves gasping for air when they finally make it to the top.

Remember something. Fitness is not achieved through dieting. Fitness is achieved by exercising and moving your body. Being physically fit extends your life, reduces heart disease and cancer, increases your brain function and the list of benefits could go on for pages!

The idea of doing something you know will make you feel better is a challenge to some. Some seem intimidated by it, while others thrive on the challenge. If you find yourself procrastinating, or if you are intimidated by the whole exercise thing. Remember that success and achievement are like a big boulder. Overcome the inertia and set that thing rolling and very soon it's so hard to stop. Accept the challenge, yourself thrive on getting in better shape by setting goals and achieving them. Trust me, if Jim and dozens of my clients can do it, then so can you.

The psychological improvements that can happen to you by starting even the simplest exercise program are still astonishing to me. I watch my clients lose some weight, and immediately I see their self esteem shoot up and I observe them start to feel good about their bodies for the first time ever. I notice them coming into the gym in tank tops confidently, smiling, when they used to stay covered up in baggy clothing. Soon, they begin to blossom mentally and emotionally. Yes, even spiritually. Exercise is good for the soul!

So I say, lets get to work, shall we? Don't you want to feel better physically as well as emotionally? Imagine putting on any swimsuit you want - even a skimpy one -and going out to a crowded beach or pool and feeling better about your body than you ever have before. Not only can it happen, it will happen, but only if you get moving!

I'm not sure if you've ever felt depressed before. Most of us have, but I'm almost certain that your mood has felt a little "down" at times. Did you know how dramatically your mood can improve after an exercises session? Before the workout you may find your "down" mood causing you to think, 'I don't feel like exercising.' But if you get moving in spite of that, you can feel like a new person afterwards.

As my mentor Paul Chek says, "Exercise should be your drug of choice!" But it's not just the physical benefits - the endorphins and "good mood" chemicals you stirred up - it's also the fact that you took action, and every time you take action, your self esteem rises and so does your mood right along with it. Emotion follows motion. Remember that.

Even better, exercises reduces stress! Who doesn't feel at least a little stressed these days? The exact same thing is true about exercise for reducing stress as it is for changing your mood. So I say again - get moving! Get to work and see how it changes not just the way you look, but the way you feel - and see how fast it happens!

Now you're in tune with how exercise can be a beneficial addition to your lifestyle, so let's get you started with some specific guidelines!

David Grisaffi's Guidelines for "Exercise Enhancement":

" Get out there and do it - right now - even if you don't feel like it. Overcome inertia and get that ball rolling now!

" When you "don't feel like exercising," remind yourself that exercise is what will make you feel better!

" Do not think of exercise as painful ordeal like the dentist, think of it as relaxation and de-stressing time.

" Not sure how to start? Try combining 20 minutes of strength training two or three times per week with three one hour sessions of unstress-full aerobics like walking and you are on your way!

" Set goals and write them down. I make all my clients sign an exercise contract and tell them to post a copy wherever they will see it often and get motivated by it, like in the car, on the refrigerator, on the mirror etc.

There's one last thing I want to share with you and warn you about. I call it, "The Fearless HUMP!" This is the bump in the road that everyone hits at some stage in their journey and most people find difficult to pass. It's when you find a little excuse to waiver from your routine and you turn it into something bigger than it really is. If you're not careful, that's when the "boulder" may start rolling in the opposite direction. What do you do? There's no trick to it - tough it out, be fearless and get over the hump! You must be consistent to make exercise a habit and stick with it!

Get going! Find an environment that nurtures your goals. Find a workout partner near your age, ability and motivational level. If you like to workout on your own, great! Just find whatever special surroundings that will help in your quest for better health. Most important, remember that exercise is a life long journey that will not just improve your health and your body, it will have a ripple effect and enhance every single part of your life… that's the "Exercise enhancement principle!"

It’s Possible!! Parents With Young Kids Actually Can Get SUPER Fit!

If you're a stay-at-home mom or dad (or even a working 'primary caregiver parent') with small children you might believe it's impossible to get really fit (and may I dare suggest 'ripped'?) with the daily challenges and time constraints that you face while caring for your youngsters.

However, there are several ways to get a great workout in within the day if you know just how to 'play' it.

Yes, New Parents! 'PLAY' is the operative word here.

Kids love to play, right? So, what's stopping you from either joining them… or better yet, having THEM join you in your workout?

Let's start with the easy suggestions. Kids love to tear around the room at the highest mach-speed they can manage right? Little bundles of energy, those tykes.

So, tear around with them. Play tag in the backyard (or in the house) or even hide and seek. You could even pull those old clunkers out from our own childhoods like 'Kick the Can' and 'Marco Polo'.

Feel free to offer up piggyback and horseyback rides. Swing on the swings, if you have them (or if you're at the playground). Just because you're the grown-up is no reason to actually ACT like one!

Merry-go-rounds need pushing… teeter-totters need riding, slides need sliding down. Your kids will LOVE it if Mom and Dad play, too.

If it's Summer, a dash or fourteen through the sprinkler will not only be refreshing and fun but gets that heart rate up quite nicely, thank you.

How about setting up a slippy-slider and the hose and having some good old fashioned slippery Summer fun in your bathing suit? Why should all the fun be left to the physically young? The young-at-heart will be more than welcome to play along.

If it's Winter, build a snowman … or better yet, a snow fort! Do you know how much kids love forts? Once you're finished building the fort you can make up some great games to play in it. Or grab the sled and head to the steepest hill. Climb up, sled down, repeat ad nauseum and tell me that's not a great bout of interval training.

And talk about the bonding session. What's better for bonding with your kids than doing what THEY love to do?

Ok, so you've had your fill of kid-oriented activities and just want to get down to some good heavy lifting but you're worried your kids will get in the way? Or, that it's not safe for them to be around the equipment?

There ARE ways to manage that.

Make your weight training session into a game. But first, make sure you either have some toy dumbbells or some VERY light dumbbells for the kids to use.

Now, its "Copy Mommy or Daddy" time. Modify that old game of 'Simon Says' that we used to play and make it into a fun session of 'copy cat'.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with handing your tykes very light or toy dumbbells to follow along with what you're up to. Have you ever seen your kids copy you when you're doing housework or working in the garage? This is second nature to kids. They love to learn and grow by copying the grown-ups.

So get to work on your routine and let them know it's "Copy Mommy or Daddy" time. Not only will they get some great exercise but they'll be so busy trying to copy you and keep up that they won't have time to think about coming closer to your heavier equipment. It won't even be a curiosity to them. They have their own set. Just like that toy vacuum cleaner, toy oven or toy wrench in their toy cabinet.

And hey, if they do decide to wander too close to the equipment, a quick reasonable explanation of 'grown-up toys and ow-ies' should do the trick. And if doesn't then offer to let them try to pick up one of your heaviest pieces. Since they won't be able to that should bore them pretty quickly.

If you want to do some good indoor cardio get them to compete with you. How many burpees can you do? How many can the kids do? Or see who can jump rope the longest out in the backyard. I bet they beat you, and that's the most fun a kid can have, when they can beat their parents at something they consider a grown-up activity.

Or you can make a game of racing to the fence then seeing who can walk back the fastest without cheating by breaking into a run (over and over and over again). There's some MORE great interval training for you.

The possibilities are endless, and you don't have to wait for the kids to be down for a nap. Involve them wherever possible and feed your energy with their energy. You'll be the fittest family on the block, not to mention the closest!

How To Make Money Fast Online

The question has come into everyone's mind at one point or another."How do I make money fast?" Luckily for everyone who has ever had that question come to mind there is an answer! There are several ways to make money quickly online, now we will venture through the online category.

3 websites to make money online.

1. Associated Content.
2. Cash Crate.
3. Forum booster.

Let's begin with associated content. Associated content should be the number one stop for those people who frequently ask themselves, how I could make money fast. Associated Content requires you to write content, which in other words for those who aren't familiar with the online language, content means articles.

Associated Content requires that you write articles for them, they will pay you anywhere from $3 to $40 for your content.

Most of the time however the bids that they place on your content are for much less than $10. However, this is still a great way to make money online if you can type several articles per day. You may be surprised to see how easy it has become to earn a part time income through writing for Associated Content.

The next site that we will talk about is Cash Crate. Cash Crate is a site that pays you to take surveys. They may pay anywhere from a dollar to possibly a hundred dollars, just for you to take a survey.

Doesn't sound too bad now does it? The reason they pay you to complete surveys is that companies are willing to shell out loads of cash for in-depth information from their consumers to find out exactly what they word on the street is about their product or services.

They even have a daily survey on the homepage that is guaranteed to make you some extra income; the guaranteed survey on the homepage pays $0.80. It may not seem like much but do the math, over a 30 day time period. That is almost $30 extra dollars just for taking surveys.

Are you still asking yourself that question, how do I make money fast? Well if writing tons of articles and taking surveys doesn't really sound like your cup of tea, there is always the alternative of Forum Booster.

Forum Booster is a website that pays you $0.10 for each post you make on a forum. This is great for those of us that would be searching and posting on forums either way, why not get paid for it? If you can post sixty posts in 1 hour, you can make $6, which is not that bad for earning money online.

It may not be minimum wage, but you have the advantage of being in the comfort of your own home. You can be in your pajamas sipping coffee while working on posting on these forums. Each post should be a minimum of 12 words, which is not difficult to do at all.

Overall there are tons of ways to make money quickly online but these are just the tried and true and the best of the best.
